I'm Still Here - (I think...)

For all my blog readers - I am still here. Don't give up on me. I have had a really bad week - starting last Tuesday night. We have a bathroom in our basement and Tuesday we had some really bad rains. Needless to say the city sewers overflowed and invaded my whole basement. It's been a very stressful and long nightmare.

There were so many things that were lost and ruined. I stored my stockpile in the basement so most of my food and many other household items were completely ruined - including 9 packages of Ensures. Luckily the insurance company had no problem compensating me full retail value for everything. Still, it's extremely disappointing to think about all the time and energy I had invested in getting everything. Right now, the things that didn't get ruined are sitting in boxes in my dinning room. This makes meal times very frustrating because it's hard to find anything, not to mention adds quiet a bit of clutter.

Speaking of clutter - my whole house has been out of order because of all this. We have had sanitation crews, plumbers and our adjuster in and out of our house all week. The water heater was ruined so we had to get a new one and the motor in our furnace/ac unit was ruined so it also needed to be replaced. The inside and fan also needed to be cleaned and sanitized. I haven't been able to do laundry for a week - the piles of clothes are out of control and scare me. Not sure if I will ever get laundry under control again. Everything that was not ruined is now sitting in various corners of my house; TV, VCR, DVD player, movies and many many many different miscellaneous items.

Add all that to the everyday up keeping and cleaning of my house - which time and energy will not allow me to do. I had started my garden about 3 weeks ago and I know it's in desperate need of some TLC. I'm not sure what's going on over there but I see tomato plants everywhere. There are also a ton of weeds that definitely just need to go - that is when time and energy lets me get out there and do that.

Did I mention summer break has started so all the kids are home to carry on with their plans to totally drive me insane before the summer is over?

Another thing is, I was especially upset when they started ripping out the walls. You see, the basement was my special project. When we moved in it was a dark grey dungeon. The floors were painted with old grey paint, the walls and baseboards were grey - everything was dirty and yucky. I had painted and stenciled the walls to make them look brighter and nicer. I had painted the entire basement floor a nice hunter green. I really put a lot of time, energy and effort into making the basement nicer and more pleasant - mainly for the kids because a part of that was their TV room. So when you see all your hard work completely ruined and ripped apart - it definitely broke my heart.

I am sure one day in the future, everything will be back in order........

It's always a disaster when something happens to your home. We have worked with a number of different companies regarding this incident - all of which I plan on writing reviews. Some companies were very understanding and extremely helpful - other companies just treated us like dirt. Nothing makes you feel worse than having your home destroyed and the company you call to help does a lousy job with lousy workers and then tells you that you and your family aren't important and puts the health of your family in jeopardy with stupid and thoughtless actions.

Hugs for you! I'm so sorry that you've had to deal with so much crap (unfortunately, it's literal this time) this week. You really deserve a day to relax once everything is taken care of!

It seems like there are a lot of people in your situation. We had sewage back up into our basement years ago and it was terrible. I can really sympathize.
Blessings~
